The island of Kanawa, only some 15 km from the growing fishermen’s town of Labuan Bajo on Flores, is fringed with a bed of coral reefs teeming with colorful fish all around. Its turquoise water is exceptionally calm and clear. Swimming and snorkeling are most poular family activities here. Dive down the sea from the jetty, and meet schools of fish that cloud the stilts. Hours would pass so quietly as you are busy with all of these beach activities. The island of Kanawa has two bulging hills with fantastic panorama from its hilltop. Covering only 32-hectare or less than 80-acre land, the island is a hideout from the hidden, yet so close to the burgeoning harbor of Labuan Bajo.
Kalong Island is named after its majority of occupants which are “Kalong” or the bat. Located just near Rinca Island or 8 kilometers from Labuan Bajo, there are thousands of bats living on this small island. Since the whole island is covered with mangrove forest, this island can be adored from distant only. The best time to visit Kalong Island is during the dusk as the bats are wonderfully flying in a big group and leaving for other neighboring islands to find food. This beautiful formation of flying bats can also be seen early in the morning as they go back to their homes. For its natural show, Kalong Island has become a popular and busy destination in Komodo National Park.
Strange name and not many boat providers bring their guests to this place. Manjarite Island is about an hour from Labuan Bajo and its position is close to Rinca Island. There is a small wooden pier there.
The island is uninhabited, and there is a clear, greenish shallow beach, with a depth of about 3-5 meters. Shallow water with minimum waves, making this location a perfect spot for easy snorkeling or relaxing on the boat. From the top, you can see the bottom full of various colorful fishes such as clownfish, scorpionfish, angelfish and even blue ribbon eels.
Manjarite Island is an inhabitant island within Komodo National Park. It is one of the perfect snorkeling spots. The beautiful beach combines white sandy beaches and crystal clear water make this place become the favorite destination.
There is a small and long wooden pier there, almost 300 meters long. The beach is uninhabited and privately owned by multinational hotel corporate.
Manta Point is the most strategic location to witness Manta Rays. These creatures often pass by this spot peacefully. Their size is about 3 meters. They can hurt you easily. Though, they swim elegantly. Actually, the sea is warm. You only need to pay attention to its underwater current. It is quite strong. The sea doesn’t have lots of corals, actually. That means your main attraction will be the Manta Rays.
Taka Makassar Island is a tiny treasure that lies within Komodo National Park in Flores, Indonesia. Also known as the ‘Maldives of Indonesia’ or the ‘emerged land’, this island is smaller than a football field. The crescent-shaped pinkish sandbar is surrounded by shallow turquoise waters that look too good to be true! It’s an absolute diving haven especially because it’s the longest reef in the national park and the location attracts large numbers of manta rays.
Pink Beach, or Pantai Merah, as it is aptly named, is one of seven pink beaches on the planet, and is just one of the many amazing features of Komodo Island that make it truly a Natural Wonder of Nature.
Rinca, also known as Rincah, Rindja, Rintja and Pintja, is a small island near Komodo and Flores island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, within the West Manggarai Regency. It is one of the three largest islands included in Komodo National Park. The island is famous for Komodo dragons, giant lizards that can measure up to 3 metres (9.8 ft) long. Rinca is also populated with many other species such as wild pigs, buffalos and many birds. Being less known and less visited than Komodo Island, it is a good place to see the Komodo dragon in its natural environment with fewer
people to disturb them. Day trips can be arranged to the Loh Buaya park facility on Rinca Island from Labuan Bajo on Flores by small boat at the park headquarters. A jetty which marks the entrance to the park facility. A short walk leads to the local park office where there are rangers to accompany visitors on short or medium-length walks to see komodos and other animals such as monkeys, deer and buffalos
